Penmaenmawr 8/12/2004
I used my
old geezers bus pass to get me from Amlwch, on Anglesey, to Penmaenmawr a few miles along the coast. My intention was to get there before the 10.40 stone train left for Crewe which follows the 9.50 Holyhead to Euston Voyager service. In the event the timing worked out quite well. The light was rather poor early on but gradually improved as I wandered backwards and forwards between Penmaenmawr and the tunnels at Penmaenbach. Annoyingly the best hour of light coincided with a period with no trains, and was just beginning to go off when 47839 appeared, a touch late, with the 12.41 Holyhead to Crewe. A good few trains were formed by the usual 175 units but a couple of 158 two-car units were in evidence. The wigan to Gaerwen water cannon appeared with 37689/682 just as I was off to catch the bus home
