7th February

I've not really mentioned equipment before. Today I was using a Nikon D70 camera with three lenses: a 19-35mm Cosina, 28-80mm Nikkor and a 75-240mm Nikkor. In 35mm terms these focal lengths are multiplied by 1.5 because the sensor on the camera is smaller than the 35mm frame.
There had been quite a heavy frost overnight (for Anglesey, that is) and there was a clear sky, and since I had to go into Valley to call at a shop I decided to take a few photos as well. For a fair amount of my photographic time I'm confinrd to Anglesey and so I've been trying to find some variety as far as location and viewpoint is concerned.

This is 175 115 approaching Rhosneigr station as the 9.27 service from Crewe. The sun had disappeared and a cold south easterly wind was blowing.I last used this location in the mid 1980s

I moved down towards Valley and took this shot of 47 853 Express on the 10.03 from Manchester Piccadilly.

At the same spot but going the other way was 175 001 on the 12.36 Holyhead to Crewe. This train is an all stations by request stopper on Anglesey. This was taken with the Cosina 19-35mm lens set at 20mm

The sun had gone again (this time for good) as the 09.00 'Voyager' from Euston appeared formed by 221 119 Amelia Earhart. The spot in the sky at the top right is a 'Hawk' jet from RAF Valley.

Being so close to Holyhead it's usual for what goes down to come back up again and 47853 did that as the 13.35 back to Manchester.
Nikkor 28-80mm lens @ 48mm

The 12.17 from Crewe is often worked by a 158 set, today 158 828 in Arriva 'blue' livery was provided.
Nikkor 75-240 @ 75mm (112 in 35mm terms)

221 119 Amelia Earhart working back as the 14.17 Holyhead to Euston.
With the 75-240mm lens on the camera set at 240mm this gives an effective focal length in 35mm terms of 360mm.

Zooming back to an effective focal lenth of 160mm allows 221 119 Amelia Earhart to get a little closer

This is158 828 returning as the 14.30 to Llandudno Junction just having passed under the bridge carrying the A55. the lens set at an effective 210mm

and the last shot of the day with 158 828 heading away towards Rhosneigr. Again withe the lens set at an effective 360mm
