Manchester to Huddersfield via Diggle / 45209-at-Platform-11 David Flitcroft 21/01/04

Ex LMS Black Five 45209 stands at platform 11 at Victoria in January 1963. 45209 will leave for liverpool Exchange by taking the turnout immediately in front of it, crossing the two through lines to Exchange to join the former L&Y route behind Exchange station. A practise that was a throwback to the days before the 1922 grouping. At that time platform 11 ended about level with where I was standing when I took the shot. In LMS days platform 11 was extended to join platform 3 at Exchange, with the useful extra platform accomodation being known as 11 middle.
